I met Dr. Stephen Post eight years ago as I was about to leave on the Kindness Bus Tour. We have stayed in touch over the years, updating each other about our lives. Being a professor at Stony Brook on Long Island and working at the University Hospital there takes up most of his time. I am so happy he was able to take some time off from his busy schedule to meet me today and catch up.

Coach Vinnie Harris and Howard Wood former professional basketball players invited me to have lunch with them to talk about the many ways we can inspire children to help one another. Many children are slipping through the cracks and many more are completely neglected. There needs to be a better connect between many parents and children to help stem the tide of bullying.

A big thank you to the Southampton Press and writer Kelly Zegers for the sensational “front page above the fold” article in their newspaper. Kelly’s writing style is concise and to the point. I mentioned to her as she finished up that I was requesting that specific positioning in the paper. I’m sure publisher, Joe Louchheim, who I sat next to at the Southampton Rotary had much to do with this wonderful article.

More and more, as the years go by, I realize one of the most important aspects of my mission is that it is all about the children. Children seem to recognize the Kindness Bus and Kindness Bicycle calling attention to their parents. The younger ones ask their parent to tell them what the words say. Conversation starts and that is what it is all about. Parent and child discussing things they quite honestly don’t talk about enough.
Today Caroline and Will came by with their mother Amy. Wonderful conversations ensued about having kindness as a goal and being as kind as they can as often as I can. That sort of thing means the world to me.

Two young men, who had previously met me, came back to the Kindness Bus with custom art of the One Million Acts of Kindness mission. What a wonderful act of kindness on their part to take time out of their day to create such masterpieces.

After riding these past five days to honor the five Dallas police officers, it is now time to go back to the basics of riding to address bullying and adolescent suicide. I love riding the Kindness Bicycle while helping to lend comfort to individuals through conversations and their witnessing the signs. This bicycle gets an incredible amount of notoriety, letting me know that I am on the right track.

I love when men come over to the Kindness Bus and discuss with me the meaning of this mission.
I failed to get their names but the younger man lost his father on September 11th. He was especially grateful for One Million Acts of Kindness and its mission of teaching all of us to have kindness as a goal in our lives.
