Part of my inspiration for this ten-year journey comes from the lyrics of a song sung by John Lennon. “So this is Christmas and what have you done… another year over and a new one just begun”. Year after year, this song would play and it would be a reminder to me of how I was going to make a difference. Year after year, I didn’t. This is the time of year when we all get a new starting line put in front of us, we set goals to better ourselves and the world around us. In a way, this song was my starting line. I finally realized that one gets only so many starting lines in one’s life. It was time to start the race.
Read your article in the AARP magazine…impressive. How great to just up and go. Although I’m sure planning is involved. I like to surprise people anonymously. Often in line at the grocery store I see the person in front of me struggling to find enough money to pay for the groceries and as they fumble around looking through their wallet to find additional monies I signal the clerk that I’ll pay it without their knowing. I just love helping like that.
Perhaps one day you and your bus and sweet dog will mosey through Portland, Oregon. Still 10 years is a HUGE commitment. Or should it be a life’s work and not just 10 years? Maybe not on the bus though. ha ha. Hey, have a good trip. Jill
What a wonderful thing to do with the next ten years of your life, keep smiling at life.
