In my talks to students, I say the following:
“Every one of you can be the kindest person in the world, you can all be tied for 1st place.”
I watch the audience, to see the reaction. The comment is usually met with fascination and you can almost see the wheels turning, in these young minds. It is an offer of a friendly challenge, quite possibly the most important challenge one can have.
I decided to write this blog after receiving the following, a most wonderful Facebook post from a mother of two of the girls in the audience:
“After your visit to Veteran’s Memorial Elementary school Friday, my daughters came home full of ideas on how they wanted to be kind to others. Thank you for being an inspiration to so many children. With your positive message spread to our whole school I am sure we will see kindness spread through our school and community. Good luck on your journey!”
