Just when I thought I was going to have an easy day by not riding The Kindness Bicycle, I learned how hard it is to record 33 videos, in a studio, in a day’s time. I have a new-found respect for people who work in studios, in front and behind the camera. It is very hard work.
Thank you to Martin Lenclos of Pipture for giving me the opportunity to be one of the first of potentially hundreds of millions of people who will use this ingenious messaging platform.

Sunday, September 9th, 2012Kindness Bicycle Makeover
Saturday, September 8th, 2012In a couple of weeks, The Kindness Bicycle will sport new signs, as I ready for a year-long perimeter ride around the United States. The ride which is titled, R.O.C.K., Ring Our Country with Kindness, will begin in October as Bogart and I start visiting schools along our travels. Our goal is to convince as many people as possible, how much they are loved and that they play an integral role in someone’s life.
I am nearly set on what words will be emblazoned across the 5 signs. They are listed as follows;
Overcome Bullying Through Love.
You are SO Important to Someone.
One Year Bicycle Ride of the United States Perimeter.
Riding to End Bullying and Adolescent Suicide.
Ring Our Country with Kindness.
The Bronx
Friday, September 7th, 2012This just keeps getting better!
I was contacted by Sheri Richardson of CBS 2 News in New York City, earlier this week, about doing a piece on The Kindness Bicycle Ride for Heroes. We met today at The Kindness Bus near the Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side. Sheri conducted a great interview and captured some shots of The Kindness Bicycle in action. We then made our separate ways to the Bronx.
Wow! What a great group of guys at Engine 92 Ladder 44. The entire crew came out to greet us and agreed to be interviewed for the piece. Pedestrians passing by, were enthused to hear about The Kindness Bicycle Ride for Heroes coming to their neighborhood. It was a very nice interaction between all of us. The guys gave me a shirt representing their house which I wore the rest of the day. Their on-site barrista even created an iced coffee for me to take on my ride.
My visit to the 44th Police Precinct was equally well received, with handshakes all around.
Thank you to everyone for making today an incredible day!
Happy to Lend a Hand
Thursday, September 6th, 2012Simon from England is a talented artist who works at the foot of The Brooklyn Bridge in City Hall Park. He creates beautiful art of various landmark buildings in New York City arranged as a skyline. He does this with layers of various colors of spray paint and then etched with putty knives. The finished product is amazing!
I have ridden by him dozens of times this summer as the Brooklyn Bridge is one of my main routes. On one of my stops to chat with him, he was being a hero to a young girl, repairing her star on a stick. When the mom went to offer Simon some money, he refused and said he was “happy to lend a hand.”
What a simple, beautiful lesson for a child to witness and learn from. It is lessons like this one that help to instill the core value of kindness in children. Every child should witness several acts of kindness every day from all adults. We should all be a Hero to someone every day.
Tomorrow I begin riding in my final borough of New York City, the Bronx.
Dad, I’m in New York City !!
Wednesday, September 5th, 2012Yesterday, while riding across the Brooklyn Bridge, I got a call from my daughter, announcing that she took a last minute detour on her road trip and came to New York City. I couldn’t turn The Kindness Bicycle around fast enough to see her.
Today I took the morning off from the rigors of riding The Kindness Bicycle to be with her before she left at noon. We caught up in person on all that has been going on in our lives. I am one proud dad!
Yesterday, Brian from Santa Monica who moved to New York City found me when I arrived back at The Kindness Bus. “I saw you in the spring in California.” he said to me. “Now I have a picture of your bus on both coasts.” I love how word of this goal is spreading. Thank you Brian, for the kind words.
Staten Island Deja Vu
Tuesday, September 4th, 2012I came back to this welcoming place for the 5th time for a visit to FDNY Marine 9. I also came to be interviewed by the Staten Island Advance newspaper.
Rob at FDNY Marine 9 came here from his previous Firehouse in Harlem where 11 men lost their lives on 9/11. He is all about giving back and is involved in helping Wounded Warriors any chance he has. He builds homes for returning veterans.
Rob gave me a tour of this facility, primarily the “Fire Fighter II.” The name on the boat is from steel from the World Trade Center buildings. The Fire Fighter II is the biggest fire boat in the world. It can pump 50,000 gallons of water per minute and its main cannon alone can shoot 17,000 gallons per minute. Thank you to everyone at Marine 9 for the great visit once again.
Elio at the Clove Avenue Firehouse was taking me back for an afternoon coffee when they got a call to go out. It was my 2nd visit to this Firehouse, they also lost 11 men on 9/11.
Thank you to Deb at the Staten Island Advance for taking the time to interview me about my mission.
Last Visits in Queens
Monday, September 3rd, 2012On this Labor Day, I rode to the final few Firehouses and last Precinct in Queens. I now only have one last borough to visit, the Bronx. This summer has flown by faster than I could ever pedal.
Andre from the Union Turnpike Firehouse was a big help in keeping me going by fueling me up with some double strength coffee. He and I shared some great stories.
The Firefighters at the Springfield Boulevard Firehouse got a call as I was talking with them. Mike, one of the Firefighters called the next house I was riding to, to thank me and send me a gift of appreciation in the mail.
The men and women in blue at the 107 Precinct were all ears, listening to my itinerary across the country. They are going to spread the word.
A big helping of gratitude to Chris from Ireland who works at Annie Moore’s in New York City, for the huge interest in The Kindness Bicycle Ride for Heroes.
