Six year old Anna Lee understands, at a very young age, the importance of helping those in need. I met her and her mom a few days ago at The Kindness Bus. Unbeknownst to me, she and her mother came back and spent a great deal of time reading over all the hundreds of messages on its chassis. It was then Anna Lee decided to do something quite extraordinary. She cut off her hair for children who lose their hair in the treatment of cancer.
I am amazed at the level of children who have compassion for those in need. The selfless act of youth giving of themselves is prevalent everywhere I travel. It is one thing to care about an issue. It is quite another to do something about it. Anna Lee is of the latter philosophy.
The photo of the two panels in today’s article describe the actions of Anna Lee. At 6 years of age, Anna Lee is teaching all of us about kindness while she helps everyone she possibly can.

Kids Caring for Kids
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012All Precincts
Monday, July 2nd, 2012Today I concentrated on visiting all of the Police Precincts I have yet to visit south of Central Park. It was a full day on the very busy streets of New York City trying to negotiate the lines of traffic and pedestrians as I made my way to 8 Precincts. I spent as much time as I could on each of these stops. There is clearly a big interest as demonstrated by the hearty thanks I always receive from everyone.
While riding through Times Square, I was flagged down and interviewed by MSNBC reporter, Meghan McCain. She is doing a story on patriotism for Independence Day and felt The Kindness Bicycle Ride for Heroes was a perfect fit for a feature she is doing. I hope that some of you see the piece that will run this July 4th.
Thank You for Coming
Sunday, July 1st, 2012Today I visited 6 Firehouses in Manhattan. I started early this Sunday morning to get out before the traffic of the day. This couldn’t have worked better, allowing me to move with ease around this crowded city.
One of my first stops was to the Midtown West area of Manhattan, known as Hell’s Kitchen. Captain Craig of the Hell’s Kitchen Firehouse and I talked about teaching kids about Heroes. It is part of what kids should be hearing much more of.
I also visited the Firehouse, also known as The Batcave which houses Engine 26 of the FDNY. Firefighters John and Steve were thrilled to talk about my ride across country and the next 3 months I will spend visiting all 212 Firehouses and 76 Police Precincts in the 5 boroughs of New York City. I love the way in which these Heroes at all the Precincts, Firehouses and Veterans organizations “light up” when The Kindness Bicycle rolls into their buildings. These individuals just aren’t thanked enough these days.
