To me, Scottsdale, Arizona has more incredible public art per capita, than any other city in the United States.
During the past 25 years, Scottsdale Public Art (SPA) has transformed its 184-square mile city into an interactive outdoor gallery. As one of the nation’s most comprehensive public art programs, SPA features a diverse range of free arts, community events, exhibitions, and permanent art that appeal to residents and visitors, building upon the built environment and the public experience. SPA’s Director, Valerie Vadala Homer, invited me for a visit today, to learn of my travels in one of the world’s most diverse objects of art, The Kindness Bus.
Alerted to the fact, by Los Angeles Public Art Director, Margaret Bruning, that The Kindness Bus Tour was to be visiting Scottsdale, Valerie and I crossed paths on a bicycle tour of Scottsdale’s public art on Saturday before my planned call to her office.
We talked today about my mission in detail and discussed the positive healing properties of art when embraced favorably by the viewer. The Kindness Bus is certainly that without a doubt. I can attest to the fact that Scottsdale’s public art has brought me much joy. Visit their website at; www.scottsdalepublicart.org
Today I took a much needed break from riding after yesterday’s All Day Honor Ride. I am catching up on expressing gratitude, in the form hand written thank yous to the many supporters over the course of the past few weeks.
